Classes for Children

In this hectic world it is so rewarding to sit down once in a while and just make something. It can be very healing to challenge our minds and release our tension through the act of creation. Please join Liz Ganshirt in one or many of these classes:

Found Object Pendants ~ $3 per child including supplies
This class begins with a "treasure hunt" at a nature preserve, beach or even in an urban setting. Children are encouraged to discover the beauty of found objects while learning what NOT to pick up! Rocks, moss covered pieces of wood, beach glass and other interesting artifacts will be collected, cleaned and wire wrapped so that they can be attached to a cord or chain and worn with pride!

Wrap Design Principles Around Your Wrist! ~ $5 per child including supplies
This class will use the process of creating a bracelet to teach that good design happens when creativity and common sense intersect. This class will focus on three important design principles: 1) Design is partially dictated by supplies, 2) A form is only as graceful as its function and the most important one, 3) Keep it Simple, Silly!

Let's Make Beaded Bracelet "Heirlooms" ~ $5 per child including supplies
After defining what in the world an "heirloom" is, the teacher will assist in the creation of beaded bracelets that can be handed down from generation to generation! Participants are welcome to bring a special bead, locket, charm or other trinket that is already a family treasure to incorporate into their bracelet.

Bead and Barter! ~ $7 per child including supplies
Students will create two bracelets using African beads and organic cord. The teacher will explain the ancient tradition of barter and how it compares with a monetary system where everyone agrees to ascribe value to coins and dollars or even to less tangible credit cards. Participants will be given an opportunity to discuss what they like best about their own designs and the designs of their classmates. Students may keep one bracelet and barter with the other. The class will close with a brief discussion to determine whether students prefer the tangible nature of barter or the more universal “coin and dollar” monetary system.

Designing Jewelry for Gifts ~ $6 per child including supplies
Need an extra special gift for an aunt, grandmother or even dad? This class will teach you how to design a piece of jewelry that they can wear and appreciate. Students will learn to take another person’s size, style and preferences into consideration when designing gifts.

Make Your Christmas Tree Some Jewelry! ~ $4 per child including supplies
Create a unique beaded ornament suitable for any holiday celebration. This sparkly bauble will make a special gift or keepsake. The teacher will instruct students as they wrap wire, Japanese seed beads and Czech glass into a design that looks more complicated than it really is...

Students come with special beads, lockets, charms or other trinkets that have been treasures in their family. I will supply an assortment of clasps and pretty "filler beads". The class will sort through the tidbits and execute original designs for each participant to create gorgeous and unique beaded bracelets that can be handed down from generation to generation!

Jewelry Trend Class ~ $20 per student including supplies
Need an extra special gift for a loved one? This class will teach you how to design a piece of jewelry that they can wear and appreciate. Students will learn to take another person's size, style and preferences into consideration when designing gifts.

Assisted Studio Time ~ $30 per hour
This is your opportunity to work directly with me on any project you choose. We can work at your studio, my studio or a nearby coffee shop. Whatever you prefer. I'm at your disposal for one on one questions and hands on training. I'll gladly advise you on design theory and practical application as well as walking you through the best ways to execute the proper techniques. I can teach you the tricks to perfect wire wrapping skills, how to get beads to lay properly, repairing jewelry so it STAYS repaired, etc. etc. Just let me know what you need. I can often provide supplies too for an additional cost.

Hail to the Bride! ~$30 per student ~ NOT including supplies ~ This is a theory class with a sketch deliverable
Design your own wedding jewelry with an expert consultant! I will help you consider your jewelry from all angles. We'll discuss your attire, the theme of the wedding, the level of activity you'll be expecting that day, etc. etc. I've worked with brides who have had every type of jewelry need. I've designed jewelry for traditional church weddings, a wedding that incorporated a hike through portions of the Grand Canyon, a moonlight wedding where the bride needed two sets of jewelry to match her mid-evening wardrobe change… I've been excited to help many brides realize their dreams for their wedding day. I'd love to help you with yours. This class will help you identify what type of jewelry you want. You'll walk away with a sketch of the piece or pieces you desire as well as information on supply prices and vendors. You will also get an estimate of how much time you'll need to order supplies and create the piece. If you want to make the items yourself, you may consider some "Assisted Studio Time" as detailed above to help you get it the way you want right away. Or, if you'd prefer to have an experienced jewelry artist implement your design for you, I can provide you with several artists who would be delighted to make your vision a reality.

Bling for Bridesmaids ~ $20-$40 per student depending on supplies chosen
Bridesmaids deserve some beautiful jewelry that they can wear many times after the wedding is over! Bride and/or bridesmaids can choose one design that is sized for each member of the party. Or, if the bride would like each bridesmaid to be able to request her own design within a theme, that option is available as well. The Bride and/or her bridesmaids can take part in making the jewelry with my guidance and assistance to complete the project.

Mommy & Me ~ Bracelets ~ $20 for Mommy, $5 for each child over 4 years of age ~ NOT including supplies
During this fun class, mommy works with her little one/s to create a beautiful bracelet she'll always treasure. We can spell out kid's names, use birthstones or whatever makes mom happy. The little one/s are allowed to create a small bracelet for themselves as well.

Grandma & Me ~ Bracelets ~ $20 for Grandma, $5 for each child over 4 years of age ~ NOT including supplies
During this fun class, grandma works with her grandkid/s to create a beautiful bracelet she'll always treasure. We can spell out kid's names, use birthstones or whatever makes grandma happy. The little one/s are allowed to create a small bracelet for themselves as well.

"I Got All my Sisters and Me" ~ Bracelets ~ $25 each ~ May include some supplies
Come with all your sisters, biological or brought to you by another form of fate. Sit with me and tell me what makes your relationship special. We'll develop a theme and create bracelets for each of you that will remind you of one another and the special bond you share.

"We are Family" ~ Bracelets ~ $25 each ~ May include some supplies
Looking for a fun project the whole family can enjoy? Let's all sit down together and create a series of bracelets inspired by the traits, attributes or adventures that are unique to your clan! Bracelets will be specially designed so that all the men, women and children in your family will be proud to wear a stylish reminder of a fun family event.
